Enter the 2017 Round the Island Race!

As one of the UK’s leading boat insurance specialists, we are once again proud to be supporting the Round the Island Race for the 15th consecutive year as race partners under our new name “MS Amlin”. As boating enthusiasts we are also regularly represented in the race as competitors and class winners with “MS Amlin Firestarter”, owned and skippered by MS Amlin’s Business Production Manager, Keith Lovett and “MS Amlin Enigma” owned and skippered by Ian Braham.

The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club will be taking place Saturday July 1st 2017. The event is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight, an island situated off the south coast of England. The race regularly attracts over 1,600 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largest yacht races in the world.

Competitors come from all over the UK, other parts of Europe and as far away as the USA to follow the 50 nautical mile course round the Isle of Wight. Starting on the famous Royal Yacht Squadron line in Cowes, the fleet races westabout, to The Needles, round St Catherine’s Point and Bembridge Ledge buoy, and back into the Solent to the finish line at Cowes.

One of the unique attractions of this Race is its even-handedness and the opportunity for Olympic and World champion sailors to be racing alongside amateurs, families and club sailors of all ages.

As a spectator make sure you get to the best mainland vantage points to watch the race. Hurst Point located near Keyhaven, and also Gilkicker Point situated off the golf course from Alverstoke are great vantage points.
