Cross Channel Adventure to: Lezadrieux and the surrounding villages of Paimpol and Pontrieux

In this Haven Knox-Johnston Cross Channel Adventure, Cecienne explores the Riviere de Trieux, a river that runs deep into the Brittany countryside and provides a delightful cruising ground for yachtsman and motorboat owners alike. The channel is easy to navigate past the picturesque towns and villages that line the riverbanks.

About 3 miles inland from the estuary lies the town of Lezadrieux where there is a friendly marina with moorings for several hundred pleasure boats and with great facilities. Lezadrieux itself is home to a wonderful variety of shops, including delicious patisseries as well as bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the local cuisine. The village hosts a music festival in late May and several regattas also depart from the port. An option to explore further up river whilst leaving your boat in the marina, is a diesel train that leaves from the town of Paimpol several times a day and follows a single track along the river to the village of Pontrieux.

Pontrieux is a must for its setting and pretty traditional French style buildings and cobbled streets. Mooring is also available on the river, if you come by boat, right in the town where John recommends anchoring for a couple of days to explore and enjoy the tranquility of rural French life. John and team then also stop off at the Ile de Brehat, one of Brittany’s loveliest islands. It’s traffic free, and a great place to explore on foot or by bike….or just unwind!

Next adventure…Roscoff and Morlaix
